Sorte de pardessus pour homme). Angl. coachman « cocher » (1579 ds NED), dér. de coach « coche ». Le sens 2, qui ne semble pas attesté en angl., est peut-être de formation française; il existe cependant un adj. angl. coachman qualifiant un vêtement féminin de coupe semblable à celle d'un manteau de cocher (Webster's).
